about
"Judas", Child ballad 23, dates to at least the 13th century and is one of the oldest surviving English ballads.
lyrics
“Oh, Judas, my Judas, go buy us some meat.
Our brethren are hungry, they’ve nothing to eat.
These pieces of silver, now take them and go,
Don’t stop on the highway for friend or for foe.”
But Judas met his sister; so evil was she
She hated gentle Jesus for his prophecy.
“Oh, Judas, you deserve to be stoned for your sin
Because of this false prophet you put your trust in.”
“Be still, my dear sister, no trouble to make.
If Jesus is hurt then my poor heart will break.”
“Oh, Judas, my dear, lay your head on my lap,
I see you are tired; you must take a nap.”

This is a great adaptation of Arthuriana and a brilliant narrative album. I love how the queerness of the characters is handled as an integral part of the narrative and plot development without it being the end all be all of the characters themselves. my boy Gawain deserved better though maritarvaniti
